The Junior Class Council’s annual high school talent show, Junior Follies, was pushed back a week after inclement weather and adverse road conditions closed Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) for three days.
The variety show, which was originally scheduled to take place January 22 and 23, will now happen this Friday and Saturday, January 29 and 30, at Hanes Theatre.
As a result of the postponement, multiple acts will be unable to perform in the show this weekend.
Junior Rachel HoTong, a member of the Junior Class Council, feels losing acts is an unfavorable effect of the winter weather.
“[Losing performers] is very unfortunate because these acts are all very talented and we hoped they all could have still performed,” HoTong said.
While HoTong described the frequent delays and time changes as “stressful,” she is proud of her club for working around the roadblocks.
“My fellow officers have done such a great job communicating what is going on. It has helped clear up a lot of confusion this past week,” she said.
Junior Follies performers, such as East Chapel Hill junior Nicholas Batmañ, have had to adjust their practice schedules in order to stay prepared to give their best performances.
“We spent much of last week, after the dress rehearsal, ensuring that we were good to go for the show,” Batmañ, who is performing in two musical acts, said. “But after everything got canceled, we (the band) couldn't find a time over the weekend to rehearse.”
However, despite the hectic past week, the singer is confident the show will be a success this year, once again.
“Even though it might be a bit disorganized on the day of, the talent that this show has to offer will ensure that this event will be just as fun as it has been in past years,” he said. “I expect everything to be fine.”
Junior Follies 2016 runs this Friday and Saturday nights, January 29 and 30, at Chapel Hill High School’s Hanes Theatre. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
